Jammu: In a tragic case of suspected food poisoning in the Kandi area of Rajouri district, four members of a family, including siblings, have died, while two others are in critical condition and battling for their lives. The critically ill have been rushed to Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu for emergency treatment.
As per KNO, authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the incident. Senior police officials confirmed that a case has been registered, and a preliminary inquiry is underway. A police spokesman stated: “We have initiated a detailed investigation to ascertain the source of the food contamination.
Samples are being collected, and statements from witnesses and family members are being recorded. Strict action will be taken if any negligence is found.”
A senior doctor confirmed that the father and two siblings (a brother and a sister) have died, while the mother and her daughter remain critically ill. “It seems to be a case of food poisoning, and samples have been sent for testing,” he said.
District health officials have also intervened. A senior health officer said: “A medical team has been dispatched to the area to conduct health checks on others who might have consumed the same food. Public awareness campaigns are being planned to ensure proper food safety practices are followed.”
Locals have expressed shock and grief over the incident, with community leaders urging authorities to expedite the investigation.“This is an unprecedented tragedy for our village. We hope the authorities will identify the cause and ensure such incidents are prevented in the future,” says a local.
The administration has appealed to the public to exercise caution and report any symptoms of foodborne illness promptly.
