KANGAN: The Food Safety Department Ganderbal, in collaboration with the Tehsil Legal Services Authority (TLSA) Kangan, celebrated World Consumer Rights Day at Government Girls Higher Secondary School (GGHSS) Kangan.

The event aimed to raise awareness about consumer rights and the importance of legal protection for consumers.
Chairperson of TLSA Kangan, Mtr Nahida Sahiba, presided as the chief guest, while the Principal of GGHSS Kangan was the guest of honour.
Several dignitaries, including the President of the Traders Federation Kangan, Mr. Umar Farooq, and Advocate Mr. Tariq from TLSA Kangan, were among the invited guests.
A large number of teachers and students participated in the program.
Speaking on the occasion, Mtr Nahida highlighted the legal aspects of consumer rights and urged both students and trade representatives to respect consumer concerns. She emphasized the need to address genuine grievances through legal mechanisms and encouraged the trade community to uphold consumer interests.
Mr. Umar Mufti, Food Safety Officer HQ Kashmir, represented the Food Safety Department and provided insights into consumer rights under the Food Safety and Standards Act. He stressed the significance of ensuring food quality and compliance with safety standards.
Other speakers, including students, the Principal of GGHSS Kangan, the President of the Traders Federation, and Advocate Tariq, also shared their perspectives on consumer rights and responsibilities.
Mtr Nahida appreciated the role of the Food Safety Department in safeguarding public health and instructed the Designated Officer of District Ganderbal to conduct more awareness programs. She suggested involving food business operators (FBOs) and other relevant departments in future sessions to enhance consumer awareness and ensure better enforcement of food safety regulations.
