Contaminated Water Tank in Kangan’s Poshkar Area Raises Serious Health Concerns

KANGAN: A serious health hazard has emerged in the Poshkar area of Kangan in Ganderbal District where a public water tank—meant to supply drinking water to the residents of Phema Mohalla—has reportedly been found contaminated.

According to local residents, the entire population of the area relies on this single tank for their daily water needs.

Disturbing photographs have surfaced showing stray dogs bathing inside the very water tank from which locals draw drinking water.

Residents allege that despite repeated complaints to the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department, no steps have been taken to secure the tank with proper fencing or cover.

“We have informed PHE officials many times to install fencing around the tank, but they have done nothing so far,” said a local resident.

“We are being forced to consume contaminated water. This poses a serious risk to our health.” he added.

Locals added that in some cases, dead animals have been found inside such tanks, while in others, animals have been seen bathing in them.

“On one hand, the government claims to provide clean and safe drinking water to every household. On the other hand, this is the reality we face,” another resident said.

The residents have urged higher officials in the PHE department to immediately intervene and take corrective measures to ensure clean drinking water and safeguard public health.
