RAMBAN: Expressing deep sorrow over the tragic cloudburst in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has called for urgent and comprehensive relief and rehabilitation efforts for the affected families.

“Deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life and property caused by the cloudburst in Ramban. Hope authorities ensure swift rescue, relief, and rehabilitation efforts for the hundreds displaced. People in vulnerable areas should stay alert and follow safety guidelines. My thoughts and prayers are with the affected families. May Allah protect all and grant strength to the bereaved. Aameen,” Mirwaiz said in a statement on Saturday.
The reaction comes in the wake of a natural calamity that struck Ramban late Friday night, triggering flash floods and landslides after heavy rains battered the region. As previously reported, three people—including two children—lost their lives in Bagna village due to a house collapse, while over 100 people have been rescued and shifted to safer locations.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ramban, Kulbir Singh, confirmed widespread damage to property, including two hotels, several shops, and residential structures. The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remains blocked at multiple locations due to landslides and shooting stones.
Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh had earlier expressed concern and lauded the district administration’s timely response. He assured full support to ongoing relief operations and emphasized that necessary aid would be provided, even from his personal resources if required.
Meanwhile, SSP Traffic National Highway, Raja Adil Hamid Ganaie, told KNO that rainfall is continuing, and restoration of road connectivity will begin once weather conditions improve.
Authorities have advised residents in low-lying and vulnerable areas to stay alert and cooperate with emergency services as rescue and relief work continues in full swing.
