Srinagar: Senior Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader and Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Waheed-ur-Rehman Para criticized the National Conference (NC) leadership,A particularly Omar Abdullah, for its failure to address the pressing political and constitutional issues facing Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking to the media after a PDP meeting chaired by party president Mehbooba Mufti, Para questioned the inconsistency of the NC’s stance on key issues like Article 370 and the region’s special status under Article 35A.
Para stated that while Omar Abdullah frequently discusses statehood, the NC’s lack of action on Article 370 remains a critical issue. He accused the NC leadership of failing to push for substantive solutions, despite holding a significant mandate. “Empty photo-ops and frequent visits to Delhi will not solve the real issues of the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” Para remarked.
The PDP meeting, convened after the first assembly session in six years, addressed the political void in the region, highlighting concerns about the region’s future and the government’s lack of clarity on its approach to Article 370, special status, and demographic issues.
Para stressed that the NC had not adequately engaged in meaningful discussions on these concerns, which he said resonate deeply with the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasized the importance of bridging the political gap and taking concrete steps towards resolving the region’s long-standing issues.
He also reiterated that the PDP was not interested in confrontation but would continue to hold the NC accountable for its promises, including the resolution of cases against youth and progress in the political process. Para made it clear that the PDP expects the NC to act responsibly and deliver on its electoral commitments.
