Srinagar: Terming the bureaucracy system a kind of slavery, Member of Parliament from Ladakh Lok Sabha Constituency, Mohammad Haneefa has sought for revival of democratic setup in the Ladakh UT.
In an exclusive interview with the news agency CNS, Haneefa said that among the four-point demands are a full-fledged state and restoration of democratic system. “Now we are waiting for the Government of India’s in this regard because we do not want the bureaucracy here as it is kind of slavery,” he said.
MP Mohammad Haneefa said that wherever the bureaucracy system is in operation, people’s issues are not being listened to.
“MPs, from different Union Territories with whom I have met, are not happy in this setup (bureaucracy). It is quite obvious because bureaucrats work just to complete their tenures,” Mohammad Haneefa said.
He also said that Ladakhi people should only decide on the development and other matters as people from outside would not understand it better than its own people.
While asking him why he chose NC among the rest of the options after emerging victorious in Lok Sabha elections, he said that he has a long affiliation with the party and had worked for it at the grassroot level. “I also have a close connection with Omar Abdullah, whom I consider my mentor. Besides, the party has put its trust in me and it helped me to progress in a very short period of time,” Mohammad Haneefa said.
He also said the Ladakh seat had gone in the Congress’s side during the seat sharing process when he contested the Lok Sabha elections as an independent candidate.
“In the run-up to the elections, a thorough discussion took place and now I am working under the supervision of Omar Abdullah. NC was the first option for me then as well as now,” Mohammad Haneefa added.
