GANDERBAL: Permission granted by the District Mineral Officer (DMO) for transportation of extracted material from K2 Aquaculture Pvt Ltd on Akhal Road has sparked resentment among locals, who allege that the movement of heavy vehicles is causing severe traffic congestion and inconvenience to commuters.
Residents said the narrow Akhal Road witnesses massive traffic jams, especially during morning and evening peak hours, making it difficult for students, office-goers, and emergency patients to pass through.
Eyewitnesses said several students were seen struggling to reach their institutions on time, while patients requiring urgent medical attention also faced delays due to the gridlock.
Locals have questioned the rationale behind granting such permission on a congested route and urged the administration to either divert the transportation through Preng Road or suspend extraction and transportation activities during peak traffic hours.
Sources said the permission reportedly allows transportation of material from sunrise to sunset, which residents claim worsens the traffic situation throughout the day.
People have appealed to the district administration to intervene immediately and provide relief to the general public.
When Valley Online contacted DMO Ganderbal over phone regarding the issue, he assured all possible help to ease the traffic menace and said that the concerned area in-charge would be informed to look into the matter and take necessary steps.
