Homestay Entrepreneurship Training Program inaugurated in Sonamarg to boost local tourism

Ganderbal: The Homestay Entrepreneurship Training Program, sponsored by the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) and co-sponsored by J&K Bank under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, was inaugurated in Sonamarg on Tuesday.

The organizers told KNO that the program is a collaborative effort with the Sonamarg Development Authority and the Tourism Department.

The inauguration ceremony witnessed the active participation of 35 enthusiastic trainees from Sonamarg, ready to embark on an entrepreneurial journey.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Sonamarg Development Authority (SDA) commended the initiative for its potential to not only boost sustainable tourism but also empower locals to contribute to the economic growth of the region.

Key speakers at the event included Tariq Nazir Banday, Incharge of J&K Bank CSR, who reiterated the bank’s commitment to supporting initiatives that empower local communities.

The Tourist Officer of Sonmarg shared insights into the tourism potential of the region and the transformative impact that well-managed homestays can have on the overall visitor experience.

Advocate Nadeem Qadri shared his valuable experience and provided legal insights, ensuring trainees are well-versed in the legal aspects of running homestays.

Waseem from KPMG, which is providing implementation and technical support to the project, offered valuable insights into industry best practices and global market trends, enriching the training program with a broader perspective.

Ashraf Wani from JK DAG, a training partner for the project, deliberated on contributing local expertise, aligning the program with the cultural ethos of Sonamarg and ensuring it meets the unique needs of the community.

The active participation of 35 trainees from Sonamarg underscores the local community’s eagerness to embrace entrepreneurship and contribute to the growth of tourism in the region.

The Homestay Entrepreneurship Training Program is designed to equip participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to establish and manage successful homestay ventures.

The CEO SDA in his inaugural address expressed appreciation for the strong turnout of trainees and encouraged them to make the most of the program. He said this is an opportunity not only for personal growth but also for positively impacting the local economy.

This initiative, with the collaborative efforts of government bodies, financial institutions, industry experts, and the local community, is poised to make a significant impact on the tourism landscape of Sonamarg, the program organizers said.
