Ganderbal Press Association Condemns Harassment of Journalists During PDP Youth Convention

GANDERBAL: The Ganderbal Press Association strongly condemns the misbehavior of PDP workers towards journalists during the party’s youth convention held in Kangan. Despite being officially invited to cover the event, journalists were subjected to intimidation and abuse, with an attempt to snatch a reporter’s mobile phone during live coverage.

On 22nd of June, during the PDP youth convention at Kangan, some journalists were harassed and misbehaved by PDP workers. The incident has raised concerns about the safety and freedom of journalists in the region.

GANDERBAL PRESS ASSOCIATION’S STANCE:

The Association has decided to boycott coverage of PDP activities in Ganderbal until the party publicly apologizes for the incident and takes strict action against the individuals involved. We appeal to PDP President Mehbooba Mufti to intervene in the matter, address the misconduct, and reassure journalists that such incidents will not recur.

STATEMENT FROM THE ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT

“Journalists do not represent any political party; we stand for impartial, free, and fair reporting in the interest of public awareness. Attempts to suppress or influence media coverage through intimidation will not be tolerated.”

The Ganderbal Press Association emphasizes the importance of press freedom and the safety of journalists, calling for accountability and action from the PDP leadership.
