GANDERBAL: The protest of PDL/TDL daily wage workers in Ganderbal took a dramatic turn on Wednesday when 128 “leftover” workers raised their voices against the protest, claiming there are irregularities in the seniority list.

The protesting TDL/PDL workers stated that they have been working for 15-20 years but their wages are very low. They demanded the implementation of the 2019 Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) and the submission of the seniority list to higher authorities. They expressed that the lack of DPC is adversely affecting their careers and livelihoods.
However, the 128 leftover workers, led by Nazir Ahmad Kandoo, are against the protest and argue that there are irregularities and deficiencies in the seniority list. Kandoo also mentioned that some individuals did not upload their Aadhaar to the financial department’s website, yet they were included in the list. Additionally, some employees lack their Cash Voucher (CV) records prior to 2015.
Nazir urged the higher authorities to thoroughly review the seniority list before taking any further action.
When Superintendent Engineer Mohammad Arshid Reshi was contacted, he informed Kashmir Reader that this matter is currently sub-judice, with the next hearing scheduled for February 24 in the High Court. The SE stated that the leftover 128 PDL/TDL workers have obtained a status quo order from the court.
Meanwhile, the tussle between the workers has highlighted the internal divisions within the PDD Ganderbal Circle. Protesting workers are demanding their rights, while a group of leftover workers is raising concerns about the fairness and accuracy of the seniority list. They emphasize the need for transparency and accountability in the department’s recruitment and promotion processes.
These internal conflicts not only showcase the tension among workers but also reflect the differing perspectives of various groups within the PDD Ganderbal Circle regarding their rights and issues. Resolving such matters requires the department to improve its processes and establish a fair and transparent system for all stakeholders involved.
