GANDERBAL: In a move aimed at strengthening livelihoods and improving post-harvest management, the District Administration Ganderbal on Wednesday distributed ice boxes among fish farmers under the Jammu and Kashmir Competitiveness Improvement Project (JKCIP) at Mamer Kangan

The programme, held under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, focused on extending support to vulnerable fishing communities by enhancing facilities for proper preservation, presentation, and marketing of fish.
A total of 30 fish farmers were provided with ice boxes to help reduce post-harvest losses and improve the quality of fish supplied to markets. On the occasion, live demonstrations were also conducted at the spot to educate beneficiaries on the effective use and maintenance of ice boxes for better storage and transportation.
Officials said the initiative will help fish farmers fetch better prices for their produce, ensure food safety, and strengthen the overall fisheries value chain in the district. The administration reiterated its commitment to supporting income-generating activities and promoting sustainable livelihoods through targeted welfare schemes.
The beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the district administration for the timely support, stating that the initiative would significantly improve their day-to-day operations and income prospects.
