“Will currency notes and goodies define democracy?” asks party
Srinagar: A day before voting, Peoples Conference on Monday said that a candidate in Kupwara assembly segment is virtually on a money distribution spree to get votes.
In a tweet, as per KNO, the PC said that a candidate in the Kupwara Assembly segment notorious for distributing money is virtually on a money distribution spree.
“Can the administration please wake up. A candidate in the Kupwara Assembly segment notorious for distributing money is virtually on a money distribution spree. There seems to be absolutely no checks. Nothing at all,” he said.
The party questioned the failure of administration in curbing use of money power used to influence voters.
“A humble question to the administration. Is this the new definition of democracy. Will currency notes and goodies define democratic outcomes,” he said.
He said this candidate was also making a group swear by the Kalima.
“This person was also seen making a group swear by the Kalima. Yet no action was taken. Just a routine ornamental explanation,” he said, adding that they are confident that these inducements won’t change the outcome.
He asked the administration to step up checking and Nakkas to prevent distribution of money by the candidate.
Meanwhile, National Conference leader and its candidate for Kupwara assembly segment, Nasir Aslam Wani last evening demanded a thorough probe into the solar light scam in the district.
“ This scam has taken place and caused colossal loss to people of Kupwara. Not only me, Peoples Conference leadership has also raised the issue,” he said.
