Locals seek LG’s intervention; officials say water supply upto the mark

Sopore: Protests against Jal Shakhti department Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district continued today for sixth consecutive day with locals accusing the department of failing to provide proper water supply.

Protestors told KNO that they are without drinking water for the last 20 days and the department concerned hardly bothers to redress their genuine demands.

Scores of people mostly women gathered and blocked Sopore-Tarzoo road to protest against the department concerned.

“It has been at least 20 days and the area is without drinking water supply. We have been continuously protesting to press for our demand, but to no avail,” they said.

They urged Lieutenant Governor to look into the matter so that they could heave a sigh of relief.

Meanwhile, an official at Jal Shakti department Sopore told KNO that water supply to the area was upto the mark, however, people are using drinking water supply for their kitchen gardens besides, using water boosters which leads to water scarcity at few tail end sites.
