The Vocal Department, IMFA, University of Jammu Hosts ‘Baisakh Sangeet Madhumaas’ Music Concert

 

JAMMU: The Vocal Department of the Institute of Music & Fine Arts (IMFA), University of Jammu, celebrated the auspicious occasion of Baisakhi with a vibrant music concert titled ‘Baisakh Sangeet Madhumaas’. The event brought together the spirit of cultural harmony and musical excellence.

 

Renowned music director and writer Shri Brijmohan graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Eminent violinist S. Amarjeet Jhandu was the Guest of Honour, while celebrated artist, social activist, and journalist S. Jung S. Berman and noted journalist and writer Sunny Dua were special guests.

 

The concert was inaugurated by Prof. Shohab Inayat Malik, Principal, IMFA, who lauded the faculty and students for their efforts in organizing the event. In his address, he highlighted the cultural and spiritual significance of Baisakhi, emphasizing its role in promoting religious harmony and remembering the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and Guru Gobind Singh Ji, marking the foundation of the Khalsa Panth.

 

The evening featured a variety of soul-stirring performances. Students Nirmal Kumar, Anand Kumar, and Priyanshu Gupta presented Gurbani Shabad with tabla accompaniment by S. Navraj Singh. Assistant Professor S. Karanjeet Singh performed a Khayal in Raag Patdeep, followed by Gurbani Shabad and a Bhajan, accompanied by Sh. Amit Anand on tabla and Nirmal Kumar on harmonium. S. Navraj Singh also showcased a solo tabla performance in Teentaal.

 

A lively Dogri folk presentation by Raamlal, Rakesh Kumar, Rhythm Yusuf, and Rahul Mangotra captivated the audience, while senior faculty members Sh. Suraj Singh and Dr. Deepali Wattal rendered soulful Ghazals and Gurbani Shabad Kirtan.

 

The event saw enthusiastic participation from faculty members including Dr. Sumit Madan, Sh. Rakesh Kumar, Sh. Rohit Verma, Sh. Raj Kumar Sharma, Dr. Roshi Shaminotra, Ms. Bindu Sharma, Sh. Rajesh Kumar, Sh. Vijay Kumar, Dr. Sujata Rajput, Sh. Chanderdhari Kesar, Sh. Amit Anand, Sh. Ajay Sharma, and many students.

 

The concert was widely appreciated by the audience for its cultural depth and artistic expression. Dr. Deepali Wattal delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the distinguished guests, Principal IMFA, faculty members, students, and attendees for their support in making the event a grand success.

 

The event was creatively designed, coordinated, and anchored by Dr. Jasmeet Kaur.
