GANDERBAL: Ganderbal Police have arrested a man for allegedly posing as a land broker and cheating innocent people by falsely presenting disputed and Government land as his private property.
The accused has been identified as Javid Ahmad Gojree, son of Ali Mohammad Gojree, resident of Rangil, Ganderbal. He is accused of deceiving multiple individuals by showing them land parcels which, upon verification, were found to be either under dispute or Government-owned. By misrepresenting ownership, the accused induced victims to invest money under false pretences.

During the course of investigation, it was revealed that the accused is a habitual offender with involvement in several criminal cases in the past, including:
- FIR No. 172/2018 U/S 447, 427 RPC
- FIR No. 136/2018 U/S 341, 323 RPC
- FIR No. 127/2019 U/S 341, 352, 504, 323 RPC
- FIR No. 232/2023 U/S 420, 120-B IPC
- FIR No. 17/2026 U/S 217, 336(1), 340(2) BNS
The accused has previously been booked in cases involving cheating, forgery, criminal trespass, criminal intimidation, and other related offences. Several complaints were received from aggrieved persons who later discovered that the land claimed by the accused as his own was either disputed or belonged to the Government. Investigation in the matter is ongoing.
Ganderbal Police have appealed to the general public to exercise due diligence while dealing in land-related transactions. Citizens are advised to verify land records thoroughly and engage only with authorised and genuine brokers. Any suspicious activity may be immediately reported to the nearest police station for prompt legal action.
