Illegal Tent Pitching in Gurez Valley Raises Environmental Concerns, Locals Seek Ban

GUREZ: Unregulated pitching of non-local tents in the picturesque Gurez Valley has sparked serious environmental concerns, with residents and environmental activists alleging that the practice is damaging the fragile ecosystem of the region.

According to local sources, several unregistered tents have been pitched by visitors across the valley, resulting in damage to lush green meadows and increasing pollution. Large quantities of litter and plastic waste have reportedly been found scattered in various locations, particularly along the banks of the Kishanganga River.

Sources further revealed that most of these temporary camping setups lack basic sanitation facilities, forcing visitors to use open fields for defecation and other nature calls, posing additional threats to the environment and public hygiene.

It is pertinent to mention that the Gurez administration had imposed restrictions on unauthorized tent pitching in previous years after similar concerns were raised by locals and tourists alike. However, residents claim that the practice has resurfaced, leading to renewed criticism.

Local residents and environmentalists have once again appealed to the administration to take immediate action and enforce a complete ban on unauthorized tent pitching in the valley to protect its natural beauty and ecological balance.

They have urged the authorities to ensure strict monitoring, proper waste management, and the regulation of tourism activities to preserve Gurez Valley for future generations. This version follows a standard newspaper style and is ready for publication with minimal editing.
