RAMBAN: The Forest Division Ramban has lodged a fresh FIR against an individual already facing trial in a forest damage case, alleging misconduct, assault on officials and obstruction of government duties during an inquiry in Gool area.

The Forest Division Ramban has reported fresh legal action against Mr. Aqeel Ahmed Ganai, who is already facing proceedings in a forest damage case (Damage Case No. 02 of 2025–26). According to official sources, an earlier FIR (No. 57 of 2025) had been registered against him at Police Station Gool, and the matter is presently under trial before the Court of the Divisional Forest Officer, Ramban.
Officials stated that despite the pendency of the case, the individual allegedly continued to file repeated complaints against officers of Forest Range Gool. In response, the department constituted an inquiry committee and summoned him to the Gool Camp Office for verification of the allegations.
During the inquiry proceedings, he allegedly behaved in a disorderly manner, used abusive language, and reportedly manhandled a government officer on duty within the office premises. The inquiry team later conducted a field inspection of the site mentioned in the complaint. However, officials claim that none of the allegations were substantiated during physical verification.
When confronted with the findings, the accused allegedly became aggressive again and reportedly assaulted the concerned officer in the field, thereby obstructing official duties.
The department further alleged that the individual attempted to blackmail certain concessionists under the pretext of issuing a “Jammu Notice” and unlawfully demanded money, affecting the department’s functioning.
Following the incident, the matter was reported to Police Station Gool. Police officials reached the spot and took the accused into custody. A written complaint was lodged vide Office No. 894/GR dated 19-02-2026, and FIR No. 08/2026 has been registered under relevant provisions of law.
The Divisional Forest Officer, Ramban, reiterated the department’s commitment to enforcing forest laws and stated that any attempt to intimidate or obstruct government officials in the discharge of their duties would be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law.
The department has also appealed to the general public not to be misled by unverified allegations and to cooperate in protecting forest resources.
