GANDERBAL: Several trout fish were found dead in Nallah Sindh at Prang, Chinner and Wussan areas of Ganderbal district, raising serious environmental concerns.
Sources told Valley Online that the fish deaths were allegedly caused by the use of harmful chemicals released into the water stream, reportedly for illegal fishing purposes.
Locals said dozens of trout fish were seen floating on the surface of the nallah, indicating large-scale damage to aquatic life. Residents and environmental activists warned that such practices pose a grave threat to the fragile ecosystem and freshwater resources of the region.
Speaking to Valley Online, locals urged the Fisheries Department, Pollution Control Board and district administration to take immediate cognizance of the matter, collect water samples, and ensure strict action against those involved.
Officials, when contacted by Valley Online, said the incident has been taken into notice and further action will be initiated after proper verification.
